Questions from returning players
- Is RuneScape 3 still active?
- Yes. Jagex still releases new content, and the list above runs up to September 2026. Since 2020 that includes two new skills, new bosses and several full quest series.
- Do I need membership to come back?
- No. Free-to-play accounts can still play, but with limits: for example, Necromancy and Archaeology can only be trained to level 20 without membership. Members get the full game, including the newer skills and quest series.
- What is Necromancy and do I need it?
- Necromancy is the 29th skill, released on 7 August 2023. It is a combat skill and a fourth combat style, trained up to level 120. It is a skill you choose to train, and it launched alongside The First Necromancer quest series.
- What should I do first after a long break?
- Log in through the Jagex Launcher with a Jagex Account, which every player has needed since November 2023. Then pick one Destination rather than trying to catch up on everything. Enter your RuneScape name above and RuneSquire shows what you can start tonight.
- What if my RuneMetrics profile is private?
- Hiscores levels can still be read, but quest progress comes from RuneMetrics. If your profile is private, RuneSquire says so instead of guessing, and you can make the profile public or confirm your quests by hand.
