- 1Completing the Invention tutorial with optimisation on discoveries will put you at level 4.
- 2In the event that you did not get enough experience from discoveries in the tutorial, you can quickly disassemble items to make up for any remaining experience (for instance, disassembling a yew longbow gives 12 experience).

To level augmented combat items, you must use them in combat.
To get from level 5 to 22 using this method will require approximately 6,972 magic logs and 74,700 incandescent energy or equivalent, and will take around 2-3 hours.
- 1Once you reach level 4, you should immediately research the maximum equipment level 5 blueprint.
- 2After this, 186,000 experience is needed for level 27.
- 3The fastest way to gain this experience is by using an augmentor to augment two tier 70-75 combat equipment, training the augmented equipment to level 5, and then disassembling them.
- 4Invention experience is granted once the item is disassembled; the item and the augmentor will be lost.
- 5A highly cost-efficient method is to disassemble two augmented black salamanders at level 5.
- 6The cost is for the salamanders, for the augmentors; in total.
- 7You would need harralander tar as ammo to use with augmented black salamanders like its unaugmented counterpart.
- 8To level augmented combat items, you must use them in combat.
- 9The higher the combat experience gained, the higher the Invention experience, so you should partake in combat that grants high experience rates.
- 10A cost-effective but slow method for training Invention is to mass-disassemble common items for simple parts and then craft divine charges with them.
- 11Items such as magic logs have extremely low junk chances and will disassemble almost 1:1 into simple parts while providing 2 Invention experience per item.
- 12Crafting divine charges with 20 simple parts and a number of divine energy (such as 225 Incandescent energy) will yield 220 Invention experience and 80 Divination experience, and the resulting charge can sell on the Grand Exchange for a small profit.
- 13To get from level 5 to 22 using this method will require approximately 6,972 magic logs and 74,700 incandescent energy or equivalent, and will take around 2-3 hours.

The ability to augment leg armour must be researched using an Invention blueprint available at level 45 (level 40 when drinking an extreme invention potion).
This requires the player to use a world bracket that has the Feeling pumped mutator offered, which grants full adrenaline for ten seconds when activated.
- 1Combat is the fastest repeatable method to level Invention.
- 2Players should equip a full set of augmented gear when training combat.
- 3This includes an augmented main hand weapon, augmented off-hand weapon if applicable, augmented body, and augmented legs.
- 4The ability to augment leg armour must be researched using an Invention blueprint available at level 45 (level 40 when drinking an extreme invention potion).
- 5In addition, the highest tier gear should be preferred, as it yields higher experience rates.
- 6Equipment experience for combat items is a function of combat experience, so you generally want to choose combat encounters that give fast combat experience rates, which typically only happens when fighting against groups of enemies.
- 7Equipment experience for items is gained per hit, so other forms of damage (e.g. familiars) does not grant equipment experience.
- 8The combat efficiency boosts lists certain unlocks and equipment that can greatly increase your area-of-effect damage and experience rates.
- 9If you do not have Greater Chain, melee or ranged combat will typically yield the highest experience rates.
- 10You may choose to level Invention by participating in any combat activity of your choice, e.g.
- 11Slayer tasks.
- 12However, if you are solely focused on the fastest experience rates possible, the below two methods are recommended.
- 13An alternative way of levelling up Invention very rapidly is via combat in Shattered Worlds, although it has high gear requirements.
- 14Deaths in Shattered Worlds are safe, though signs of life and equivalent will not activate even if not on cooldown.
- 15This requires the player to use a world bracket that has the Feeling pumped mutator offered, which grants full adrenaline for ten seconds when activated.
- 16When using ranged, bring Mechanised chinchompas to deal AoE damage and an off-hand crossbow to maximise damage.
- 17Try to clump melee monsters towards rangers or magers so they can get the most benefit from the damage.
- 18The player also needs to use an Essence of Finality amulet with a dark bow in order to use its special attack, which is very likely to kill enemies off in a single strike.
- 19When using melee, bring a halberd-type weapon; ideally a noxious scythe or Tumeken's Light, along with an essence of finality amulet with a dragon 2h sword in it.
- 20Two special attacks will kill off enemies.
- 21Additionally, XP Capacitor 5000s are recommended to increase experience gain.
- 22Clear warded chests and pick the hydra debuff when possible, as these give more enemies to kill.
- 23The best worlds to train through this method are the world brackets 91-95 or 116-120, as enemies here have enough health and don't deal as much damage compared to other brackets. 116-120 is most optimal, but players who are struggling to survive may want to use 91-95 instead.
- 24As many enemies are slain through this method, melee users should have Scavenging on their weapon to obtain additional components while levelling their equipment.

The ability to augment leg armour must be researched using an Invention blueprint available at level 45 (level 40 when drinking an extreme invention potion).
This requires the player to use a world bracket that has the Feeling pumped mutator offered, which grants full adrenaline for ten seconds when activated.
Augmenting tools requires research at level 22: augmented hatchets, pickaxes, mattocks and/or the fishing rod-o-matic.
The fishing rod-o-matic functions as an augmented item but does not require an augmentor.
- 1At level 27, you should immediately use Discovery for two very important blueprints.
- 2First, you can discover the ability to train augmented equipment to level 10.
- 3Second, you also unlock the equipment siphon, which can be used on an item to drain its item experience for Invention experience without destroying the item or its augmentor.
- 4Once siphoning has been unlocked, it becomes the recommended method for levelling Invention.
- 5Disassembling common items is far too slow and is no longer an effective way to gain experience.
- 6Additionally, augmented black salamanders and other cheap augmentable gear are slow to level compared to high-level equipment (such as mechanised chinchompas paired with an augmented off-hand and augmented armour).
- 7If you do choose to disassemble anyway, it should be done when the item is level 10, because this both maximises the experience rate and minimises the GP loss from losing the item and its augmentor.
- 8Higher-tier augmented equipment yields more experience than lower-tier equipment.
- 9When siphoning to train Invention, higher-tier equipment should be preferred if possible.
- 10Siphoning equipment should be done when the item is either level 9 or 12.
- 11Level 9 yields higher experience, while level 12 is cheaper.
- 12At this point, you should consider using XP Capacitor 5000, which double item experience rate and thus effectively double Invention experience rates.
- 13If using XP Capacitors, siphon at level 9; it is no longer cost-effective to siphon at level 12.
- 14There are two main ways to level up Invention: Combat and Skilling.
- 15Levelling items is recommended for most players to train the skill up to level 120.

- 32Try to clump melee monsters towards rangers or magers so they can get the most benefit from the damage.

- 39As many enemies are slain through this method, melee users should have Scavenging on their weapon to obtain additional components while levelling their equipment.
- 40An alternative to combat is to train tools to gain Invention experience.
- 41In general, due to the high cost of buying augmentable tools, they should only be siphoned and not disassembled.
- 42Tools offer a less intensive method to train Invention at an overall lower Invention experience rate (mostly because only one item is trained at a time).
- 43An exception to this is using an augmented crystal fishing rod at the Fishing Frenzy activity at the Deep Sea Fishing Hub.
- 44At level 99 Fishing, at least 26,300 item experience per hour can be obtained via this method.
- 45This can be increased through the use of the fishing outfit or shark outfit, as well as adding the perks Enlightened and Wise with gizmos.
- 46One can reach item level 9 in just over 1 hour of play; and level 12 in just over 3 hours of play.
- 47Once the initial time investment in discovering how to make them is done, the cost of creating new crystal fishing rods is negligible, rendering them a less costly item to disassemble than the much more expensive top tier combat weapons and gear or other crystal tools like the hatchet and pickaxe.
- 48Tools also drain charge at a much lower rate, reducing cost.
- 49Augmenting tools requires research at level 22: augmented hatchets, pickaxes, mattocks and/or the fishing rod-o-matic.
- 50Tools benefit from having higher Woodcutting/Fishing levels to access higher experience rate methods, as the equipment experience rate is directly tied to the base skilling experience rate for that tool.
- 51The fishing rod-o-matic functions as an augmented item but does not require an augmentor.
- 52Cheaper items such as the Fishing rod-o-matic or Pyro-matic may be disassembled for higher experience, but more expensive items such as dragon or most crystal items are generally siphoned and not disassembled.
- 53These are the augmentable tools and ideal methods for training tools:
- 54In the event that there are multiple identical augmented tools in one's bank - such as augmented crystal hammers - and a bank preset utilising the equipment tab is used, the preset will cycle through each of the augmented tools; each time prioritising the one with the lowest item experience.
- 55As such, it is advised to keep only one version of an augmented tool at a time or to not use the equipment tab when creating a bank preset.

It is important to note that you must unlock ancient gizmos by either crafting the 'Ancient gizmos' blueprint or by buying it form the GE and researching it on the invention table.
Timeworn components can be purchased as crates from the Grand Exchange, but the gizmo components must be acquired separately.
This rate does not include the time required to obtain the materials needed to craft ancient gizmo shells.
1,885 ancient gizmos must be created.
For example, creating ancient weapon gizmo shells requires the following materials: 37,700 blade parts, 3,770 strong components, 37,700 historic components, and 3,770 classic components.
Creating gizmos benefits from boosts such as torstol incense sticks, which reduce the number of ancient armour gizmos required.
- 1Creating gizmos yields the fastest Invention experience by far, but it is also extremely expensive.
- 2As such, it can only be recommended to players who seek the absolute fastest training method and do not care about cost.
- 3You can craft weapon, armour, or tool gizmo shells and then fill them with materials that yield a high amount of experience.
- 4Both crafting the shell and creating the gizmo will grant experience.
- 5Gizmo experience is equal to the sum of the experience granted by each individual material (see materials article).
- 6It is important to note that you must unlock ancient gizmos by either crafting the 'Ancient gizmos' blueprint or by buying it form the GE and researching it on the invention table.
- 7At level 86, players can drink an extreme invention to boost their invention level to 103.
- 8Then, they can discover timeworn components.
- 9Timeworn components are the cheapest and highest-experience material to put into an ancient gizmo.
- 10Ancient tool gizmo shells are not recommended due to the high cost, with ancient armour gizmo shells also not recommended due to these shells not being able to use timeworn components; instead, use ancient weapon gizmo shells.
- 11Timeworn components can be purchased as crates from the Grand Exchange, but the gizmo components must be acquired separately.
- 12Completed gizmos can be created at a cost of each, yielding experience at a rate of coins per XP.
- 13On average, using the "repeat" button in gizmo creation, it takes about 9 ticks (5.4 seconds) to create a gizmo from scratch and then disassemble it.
- 14Thus, about 667 gizmos can be created per hour.
- 15This rate does not include the time required to obtain the materials needed to craft ancient gizmo shells.
- 16When creating timeworn ancient armour gizmos, experience can be earned in an hour.
- 17The total amount of experience between 86 and 120 is.
- 18Using this method and assuming no boosts, one can level between 86 and 120 with, which takes hours. 1,885 ancient gizmos must be created.
- 19For example, creating ancient weapon gizmo shells requires the following materials: 37,700 blade parts, 3,770 strong components, 37,700 historic components, and 3,770 classic components.
- 20Creating gizmos benefits from boosts such as torstol incense sticks, which reduce the number of ancient armour gizmos required.
- 21Players who have not unlocked timeworn components should train using combat with an XP capacitor, because experience rates using most lower-levelled materials is not significantly higher than completing ED3 trash runs.
